Hi all,

I have been running FreeNAS for quite a while and have updated starting from 9.0x up until 9.2.1.5 or something similar for my NAS @Home and my backu-p NAS. But I would like to migrate to 11.1 (and also do a hardware upgrade on both).

Should I:
  1. manually do a sqlite compare and merge those to the newest .db config or
  2. could I better search for the migration scripts (which are used throughout the upgrade-installer configs) in which must exist somewhere on github
  3. Some other way to preserve my most import settings

Thanks in advance

You should backup your configuration and let FreeNAS do the migration.

But is that even possible with such a big version jump? I've had an initial try and that wasn't really promising and showed more errors than success if I recall correctly.

If it doesn't work, you'll have to redo it by hand anyway. 9.2.1.6 introduced very significant changes that required fixing some existing configuration even back then.

You can try to manually move some stuff over to an 11.1 config database, like the users.

Thanks Eric,

I'll start of with a sqldiff between the factory-v1.db and the freenas-v1.db I geuss and apply those to my newest config.
