I have been using FreeNAS off and on for a while now, but I am a novice with FreeBSD.

I am in the process of reconfiguring a backup server with 10Gb Intel cards at home with
[36 TB PC/Plex Media server] <--[Dual 10Gb--> [ growing 25 TB backup server]

I am using my old 3TB drives in the backup server and quickly running out of space, but getting hardware to allow expansion.

Joined to get some help installing software on FreeNAS. Mainly "ethtool" and lastest "iperf"

welcome, iperf is a standard tool used for performance testing and ethtool isn't something installed most of the time on freebsd. Depending on what you want to use it for I would say you are probably doing something that shouldn't be done on freenas. Remember you can't modify the base OS, you can only do things the gui lets you do. If you need tools or services for your home network you can install those in a jail.

Welcome and I hope you get that new hardware before you run out of space.
