Hello guys!
Im fairly new to this freeNAS-thing and i just got my two 6TB Drives working and accesible from my windows computer.
Now ive tried to set up a 10gbit network link which is directly attached to my computer via sfp+. I think i got the right Network adapter (ql0) and entered a random ip-adress (192.168.178.199). I entered the subnetmask /24 and hit apply. After that the gui said an error occured and the freenas page wasn"t able to be accessed anymore.
I hope someone here can help me.
I am willing to read all i need to know to do no more further mistakes..
In case you need any more information to help me, ill give you anything i know just tell me what you need to know.
Sorry for my english

What IP address does your computer have on that direct link? Can you ping the FreeNAS system at the new IP address? Is there a monitor and keyboard available for the FreeNAS box?

Are you able to access the Console? This would be the Monitor and Keyboard physically attached to the FreeNAS computer. You should be able to reset the NIC interface via the console and if nothing seems to work, reset to default settings if you must, but first try the NIC settings.

You are not missing anything. My educated guess: IP settings on both sides of the link do not match. You can drop into a shell from the console menu. Please post the output of this command, take a photo with your phone ;)
Code:
ifconfig

Additionally post the IP configuration of your computer. Some more info (Windows, Mac, FreeBSD, Linux ...) would be nice.

Kind regards
Patrick

Your computer seems to be connected to a Fritzbox router so it probably got its address via DHCP. When you say you connected the FreeNAS directly to your computer, does that mean the latter has got a second interface? When you unplug it from the Fritzbox it will lose its IP address and you need to manually configure one matching the one on your FreeNAS. But that must be a different network than the one the Fritzbox manages. This is all basic IP networking.
Second your FreeNAS seems to be connected via the igb0 interface, but does not have an address. This is the default, it expects a DHCP server, too.

If you don't know basic IP networking my advice is to connect your PC and your FreeNAS to the Fritzbox and everything will be great, promise ;)

If sou have a separate connection between the PC and the FreeNAS you need to set up IP addresses on both sides (!) manually, since there is no DHCP server on that link. And they must be from a different network than the 192.168.178.x you run in the Fritzbox managed LAN.

So, setup e.g. 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0 for your PC and 192.168.0.2/255.255.255.0 for the FreeNAS on that 10G link and you should be able to access the UI ...

You should be able to reset the NIC interface via the console
Sounds familiar. Hopefully it works. But I've never heard of a Fritzbox before. Need to go look it up to find out what it is.

EDIT: Look up a Fritz!box , not as exciting as I was hoping for, just a normal residential modem/router.

It's the most common consumer router in Germany. Quite ok, the one-eyed among the blind ...
At least they publish security updates regularly and over a period of years after introduction of a new model. So much better than your common plastic thingy from China at least in that regard. The IPsec and specifically the DHCP server leave much to be desired in a corporate environment, though.

@DDiSoEsT configure your igb0 for DHCP and make sure this one is connected to the Fritzbox ...

You choose a random network different from 192.168.178.x and then pick 2 different addresses in that same network. In the photo you took both ql0 and ql1 showed "no carrier" so your direct link might not quite be working, either. Or possibly your PC keeps that 10G interface in the shutdown state because you have not configured it, yet.
