Hi All,

Have not been around since Covid started, now the interest grows back. Trying to upgrade from FreeNas 11.2-U6 to TrueNas Core 13, at the same time move boot drive from USB to M.2 Sata. Opinions on my option
Option 1
  1. At 11.2-U6 with USB as boot drive
  2. Upgrade via GUI switching trains from 11.2-U6>11.3-U8>and so forth until 13
  3. Upon reaching 13.0-U6 (via GUI)>save config>fresh install 13.0-U6 to m.2 Sata as boot drive>restore config
Option 2
  1. At 11.2-U6 with USB as boot drive
  2. Save config>fresh install 11.2-U6 to m.2 sata>restore config
  3. Upgrade via GUI switching trains from 11.2-U6>11.3-U8>and so forth until 13
Background: current FreeNas 11.2-U6 i am only using for storage, backup, SMB, iSCSI for VM, NFS, Rsync. Hope to do more once upgraded & 'may' migrate to Scale (running another lab test bare metal Scale primarily for Nextcloud to replace Synology) depending on circumstances.

Feedback on option 1 vs. option 2 is much appreciated, or perhaps option 3 below :)

Option 3
  1. Fresh install 13.0-U6 to m.2 Sata
  2. Upload config of 11.2-U6
  3. This seems faster
  4. Assuming i don't lose the data & not much of features

btw i went with option #2 and i used a USB to m2 SATA as boot drive (to save SATA ports), update was very smooth, no issues at all. I guess either option 1 or 2 is ok
