Hi all,

i just noticed that the freenas 10 nightly is not longer available.
Can somebody give me some informations about the status of freenas 10?

I'm just asking, because i need the version 10.
I'm running my freenas installation on esxi 5.5. To usw raw device mapping i have to use freenas 10, in freenas 9.x the disk are not realized by the system.

regards

FreeNAS 10 is under major rewrite and not really usable now. But I am not sure you may need it for anything now. Are you sure that problem exists with FreeNAS 9.3? If so, please describe it with more details.

Hi all,

as far as i know FreeNAS 9.3 is based on FreeBSD 9.3
I testet FreeBSD 9.3 on my ESXi and in dmesg the disks are shown with a size of 0 GB ore they are complete disappeared.
This seems to be a known Bug -> https://bugs.freenas.org/issues/3197
I'm using raw device mappings on ESXi to use the SMART features inside of the OS.

With FreeBSD 10 those problemens are fixed, so i tried FreeNAS 10 nightly.

You have a long time to wait before FreeNAS 10 becomes usable. But if you understand that, you can use the Alpha code, but I'd recommend against it.

If the goal is a virtual freenas system, you might want to investigate passing the hba through to the vm, instead of using RDM. People have had issues with RDM. Passthrough seems to be a better approach.
