Hello all,

I have recently setup FreeNAS and am in the process of moving all my media files from a USB drive to a dataset. Based on research, I was able to plug in the drive into my box and go into the import setting of the volume and see the drive but I get the error that it can't identify the file system. I believe its because its formatted to Fat32.

Any alternatives besides over the network?

If it wont import id say your only option is over the network. You should be able to transfer the data just about as fast by connecting it to any machine hardwired on the network. USB3 transfer rates are roughly as fast as gigabit ethernet.

Also if its the sort of enclosure that the hard drive can be taken out easily, Id go that route as he SATA interface will be the absolute fastest way possible. It should have no problem importing a SATA connected FAT32 drive, but I have never checked.

Yep, as @John Digital said, just attach USB stick to another computer on the network then copy the data over through a share.
