I currently have two 1TB drives mirror'd in my server, both of which are on their way out. Rather than just throwing the two drives out, my plan was to backup some data onto one/both drives and throw it/them in a fire safe. But I was wondering if there is an easy way to copy the data to the drive/s without having to remove the drive from the server so that it's readable if I plugged it directly into a windows pc.
I know using dying drives as a backup isn't a great idea, but I figure I either use them or they go in the garbage. So it's better than nothing. One of the drives was throwing CAM errors the other day, and the other one just threw an "unreadable (pending) sector" error and an "offline uncorrectable sector" error. I assume the latter is the lesser of the two evils?
