By now, FreeNAS 8.3.0 is released, and still the UPS module does not seem to be fixed!
Issue number 1 seems to be just a GUI problem:
When I select my UPS model in the UPS Service Options (APC ups 2 Back-UPS USB USB (usbhid-ups)), close the dialog by clicking 'Ok' and then immediately open the dialog again, a different model is selected (Tripp-Lite ups 2 smart2200RMXL2U USB, newer models (usbhid-ups)) - same driver though.

This threw me off at first also, but it's just a GUI bug, without an easy fix I'm guessing. The key is the right driver is selected, the actual UPS model doesn't actually mater, I believe the actual config file only lists the driver. Which is the problem, there is no way to go from the config back to the UPS model selected in the GUI, so it just chooses the 1st one in the list that matches the currently selected driver.

I can confirm that the driver works fairly well with various APC UPSes(1 BackUPS-Pro & 2 SmartUPS), in my virtualized environment, all used the usbhid-ups driver & FreeNAS 8.3.

I can confirm the same (similar) behavior with FreeNAS-8.3.0-RELEASE-x64 (r12701M on a TrippLite 1500LCD UPS.

Using the following profile: Tripp-Lite ups 2 Smart1500LCD USB (usbhid-ups)

I get the following:
