2Mb/s ~ 3Mb/s Speed...

Hi. I recently set up my NAS and I am disappointed with the results i'm getting. I hope there's nothing majorly wrong here. I'm getting stupid speeds over AFP. Please, help me...

Specs:
32Gb DDR4 ECC 2133Mhz
Xeon 1275 V5
5x3tb WD REDs in RaidZ2
X11SSH-LN4F

The NAS is connected via ethernet to a router. My laptop is connected to the router wirelessly.

Do you mean I should connect my laptop directly to the NAS? If so, could you provide step-by-step instructions on how to do it, please?

No they mean use an Ethernet cable instead of Wireless connection on your laptop to the router.

Try a new cable between your laptop and the router.

What kind of router do you have? Does it have gigabit ethernet ports? If not, buy an inexpensive gigabit switch and connect your server and laptop to it and run another cable from the new switch to the router.

I have tried 2 cables already... I have a DSL-3780 as a router (D-link).

Before I buy anything else I first want to diagnose where the bottleneck is... That's why i need help to connect my computer to the NAS directly.

To do this, you'll need to assign static IP addresses on both the server (hopefully it already has a static address) and your laptop. Both need to be on the same subnet.

For example, if your devices currently use 192.168.1.x, then both machines would need to use the same first three octects and a different number at the end. For the subnet mask, use 255.255.255.0. Don't worry about gateway and DNS entries.

I downloaded the manual for your router. It's limited to 10/100BASE-TX. Assuming your laptop has a gigabit ethernet adapter, the router is limiting you to 1/10 of your maximum speed.

That's why I suggested a small gigabit ethernet switch. On our side of the pond, we can get a cheap one for ~$20 USD.

I will buy a good network switch if I get good results without the router. I'm trying to set an static IP on the NAS. How should I do it?

Sorry, what do you mean by "post laptop is"? Are you asking for what my laptop is? If yes, I have a Macbook Pro Retina late 2013 with 1Tb Flash, 16Gb of RAM, Intel i7 4960-HQ. I need to buy an adapter to use ethernet on it since it doesn't have the port.

I'm using FreeNAS version 9.10.

I also have an Acer 7535G which I use for my current tests.
I will test using iperf soon.

I tried to download iPerf3 and open it but it opens up for a split second and then closes... What should I do?
