A few weeks ago I upgraded my nas to Truenas Scale. I am getting alerts of SMART test information but until this morning I didn't even have that configured. But yet I am seeing this (email report):

New alerts:
  • Device: /dev/sdf [SAT], 8 Offline uncorrectable sectors.
Current alerts:
  • Device: /dev/sdf [SAT], 8 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors.
  • Device: /dev/sdf [SAT], 8 Offline uncorrectable sectors.
SDF is one of the hard drives in the pool.

Everything is working fine but I'm curious what exactly this is telling me and what I should do about it.

Any advice about this is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. Please note that common issues are easily found via searching, through the search interface at the top right of the screen, and since HDD failure is so common, searching for "Offline uncorrectable sectors" yields thousands of posts discussing this issue. Please note that the forum rules, conveniently linked at the top of every page in red, do ask new users to search for solutions to their problems before posting a new message. If you get stuck or need some additional guidance that isn't already covered, there are lots of people who will discuss the finer points.

So sorry to have violated the rules. I won't look for help here again so I will be sure to not bother anyone.

That's like cutting off your nose to spite your face. This forum is the primary source of support for TrueNAS, but as previously mentioned, all the common issues already have solutions and answers posted. What we're asking is that you follow netiquette that dates from at least the days of Emily Postnews to determine what the guidelines for participation are, and then post a thoughtful message that doesn't require someone to generate a bespoke answer to your extremely common question. This is not paid technical support. You are using a free product and asking for help from the community. There are things you can do to make the most of this situation, but adopting a bad attitude when gently corrected is not one of them.
