No word at all on how to mount a media folder with the right permissions - that’s still necessary, isn’t it?

Hi Yorick,

Installing FreeNAS 11.3 RC2 (or newer) Plex plugin with static IP address:
The notes below are not scientifically proven but to reproduce myself a fully functional PMS ;)

Create user ‘plex’ with ID 972 at Primary Group ‘wheel’. The Plex plugin allways uses this username in it’s jail with corresponding userid. You need this user at the next step.

At the Dataset where the media is located, choose edit ACL.
Under File Information choose User -> plex and Group -> wheel
Check Apply permissions recursively
Confirm, Continue, Save.

Install Plex plugin with DHCP settings. Just enter the name of the jail and there you go. Just accept DHCP because static IP address is not possible initially to get it right. You can change the IP config later to static IP. The Plex plugin with it’s jail will be started after install automatically.

Stop the Plex jail
Edit the Plex jail

Basic properties:
· Uncheck DHCP Autoconfigure IPv4
· Leave VNet checked
· LeaveBerkely checked
IP4 interface: leave ----------------
IP4 address: (free IP address for your jail)
IP4 netmask: (your netmask)
Default router: (your gateway)
· Leave Autostart checked

Jail properties:
· Check Allow raw sockets

Network properties:
· Leave all unchanged

Custom properties:
· Leave all unchanged

Save settings
Start the jail to check if it’s working

If yes:
Stop the jail again
Create mountpoints
Start the jail

Now you’ve created the dependencies for the Plex web gui. At this gui you can create your media entrances without errors ‘no soup for you’ or ‘no items available.

Regards, R.

@Randall_64 Have you ever encountered an issue where plex can add new videos but will not remove them from the library when you deleted the files from the dataset? I updated to 11.3 and created a new dataset and I am having that problem. My dataset created with 11.2 does not have this problem.

@yeeahnick: I'm wandering why you want to remove the files from the dataset and delete them from the library afterwards. Can you remove them through the Plex webgui? Must be right click or so. For deleting through the webgui you have to enable this at the server settings part at the webgui. The items at the library and the physical files will be deleted in one action.

yes that works, the file is gone but the movie poster remains in plex. Its as if plex can't fully remove it. I had that problem before and it was permission related but the issue is back in 11.3 and I have tried everything.

Hi Yeeahnick,
Maybe you can create an extra dataset to test and check permissions according to Plex. Please take a look at my notes above about the 'plex' user and it's userid. At the existing Plex jail you can create an extra mountpoint to the newly created dataset. Afterwards you can check and test if both the file and movieposter get removed.

I did all that already =( On 11.2U7 I had to set the pool permissions to UNIX to fix it but I cannot do that for my new pools with 11.3 since the option is gone. Even if I set full control as permissions the posters remain after removing the files.

Hi Yeeahnick,
Did you select 'Inherit' and applied them recursively?

yes I did that, I just tested and from plex I can delete the files but if I manually remove the files from my share folder and refresh my plex library the posters remain. Very strange... My first pool created with 11.2 does not behave that way.

I tried this twice and it's still not working, Rather than giving me a fresh Install it auto logs me in straight away. I am assuming that there is a remnant of the old install somewhere? Would it help to delete 11.2 do you think??

Hi James1432, if you consider a fresh install you can find new and old versions of Freenas at https://download.freenas.org
If I should do a fresh install I would create a clean installation and create a new boot environment. Your boot disk will be formatted that way. Existing data pools can be imported easily afterwards. Just a hint; during installation, disconnect your drive(s) where your data pools are located. Just to be safe. Unfortunately I don’t have a glue about your errormessage.

Fresh Install... Same result! Why is Plex such a pain in the rectum every time they update FreeNas!!!
The server you're trying to access doesn't want to let you in. Make sure you're signed in as a user with access to this server.

Hi James1432,
Though it's just a Freenas update; if you keep having some troubles with installing Plex, it may be hardware related. Of course, all in respect to your hardware but just as a guess. Are you able to switch some memory modules at your Freenas system? At least you can try a re-seat of the memory modules or just switch them at the memory slots.

Honestly, i updated to 11.3 through the GUI and also updated the Plex plugin via the GUI afterwards and i had zero issues.

Make sure your on the same subnet as your Plex. I had the "No Soup For You" warning when i rebuilt plex under 11.3 version. My wifi is on a different subnet, so i wasnt able to get to plex management page to configure it. Was only able to access the configuration page after i turned off my wifi and manually jacked into my LAN, which is on the same subnet as Freenas and Plex. Once i did that, i had no other issues aside from my Pre Rolls no longer working, have yet to figure that out.

Have you tried cleaning it via troubleshooting in the Plex GUI?

Clean bundles should clear all that out
