I've got FreeNAS running running pretty well now, so I decided to try to install Transmission as a plugin. Everything went fine, and it shows a local IP address received from DHCP. But my browser finds nothing there, and my router doesn't list a connection at that address in the DHCP page.

I tried setting a permanent IP address, and that went even less well.

The FreeNAS user guide refers you to the plug-in app for configuration instructions, but Transmission has no information on this. I can't find anything online. Would appreciate some pointers on how this works.

add :9091 to the IP address in your browsers address bar

Wow, so easy, and so . . . unpredictable. ;-) Thanks, that did the trick.

Any tips on how to get magnet links to automatically go to this Transmission? I have that working from a Firefox extension that sends the magnet link to uTorrent on another machine. Can that work with Transmission?

To answer my own question, I figured out how to do it with the BitTorrent WebUI add-on to Firefox. With the settings as shown, clicking on a link (magnet or torrent) sends it immediately to Transmission and gives a notification of success.

Also, there's a link to the transmission webinterface in the transmission settings menu.

And there is the windows app transgui. It offers a few more options and better control over the web ui. It's what I use and I really like it.

Yes, thanks, but I was using Transmission for a while before I even found the Transmission settings menu. I try to stay away from that messy hierarchy of items on the left side of FreeNAS, and use the icons at the top instead. But a few things it turns out can only be gotten to from that left side area.
