I have done a fresh install of FreeNAS-11.2-BETA2 on a Hyper-V VM. (Windows server 20012 R2)
This issue occurred after the initial install of Beta 11.2 so I decided to re-install to eliminate any anomaly causing the issue.
After the second fresh install and setup was successful I decided to reboot the system and below and behold the boot gets stuck on "entropy device external interface"
The only kind of log I have is in the picture attached.
Please help.

Thanks in advance,
Cass

It's almost certainly not the random number generator.

Many hangs are due to the NEXT thing to be initialized. That has not printed a message, (yet?).
I am not as familiar with FreeBSD / NAS boot up, so I can't help other than the above comments.

Thanks for the reply buddy. I guess for now I'll try and do a re-install and capture a log file to see what's going on. And then downgrade to the stable version which, hopefully, will fix the problem

So after forgetting about the Freenas VM, the server has been off, I opened up Hyper-V manager today to see that it's now working. Very bizarre.
Then rebooted and faced with the same issue. I think it may be a virtual hdd problem?

Based on @Elliot Dierksen's boot time messages, I'd say that it's the keyboard, (or virtual keyboard), "kbd1 at kbdmux0".

Don't know how to fix it in your case, sorry.

Had similar problem long, long ago with a dumb terminal and Solaris SPARC server. The dumb terminal died and whence Solaris got to the point of installing the serial console drivers, the OS hung. Turns out the dumb terminals handshake lines were hanging any further output. Dis-connect the broken thing and all was good, (and get another recycled terminal...).

Yes, I had some unpredictable results along those same lines. It did seem to vary depending on whether I was attached via the baseboard management card, or a physical keyboard/mouse on a KVM. I never fully pinned it down, but it did seem that the virtual USB drive that the baseboard management card would attach did seem to annoy things during the boot process. Sorry, I know that isn't terribly helpful. If I hadn't mentioned before, both my FreeNAS units are bare metal.

Downgraded to the stable freenas version and all seems to be fine now (11.1-U6)
