Hello all, so I have been thinking of switching from Windows to Ubuntu and was wondering can you just simply mount the dataset with the Windows file permission to Ubuntu without any problems such as files getting corrupt or something like that? Thanks.

Yeah thats fine. We use samba shares with Windows permissions for lots of Windows, Mac and Linux users and all is fine. Its the best universal way to share data.

Ah alright, thanks! What's the difference between file permission settings then if you know?

On the dataset if you select Windows it sets the 'aclmode' property to restricted but if you select Apple or UNIX its set to passthrough.

I see, no idea what that is but I suppose that it shouldn't matter right?
Don't worry about it. Just set your datasets to Windows, share via samba and manage your permissions on that share from a Windows machine if poss and all clients Win, Mac and Linux will play nice.
