Hi,

i am new here. I have a NAS based on TrueNAS Core.

Specs:

Odroid H2+
Kingston Value 16GB DDR4 2400 SO-DIMM
Kingston SSD A2000 250GB
2x 4TB HDD

I was using TrueNAS Core V12. Did update to V13 and i cannot mnout usbstick to install network driver for Realtek RTL8125B network card. Followed this guide:

FreeNAS on Odroid H2+ – RTL8125B driver installation

I got error on pictures

Any advice how to install network driver ? I do not have currently working connection on the NAS system.

Thanks

TrueNAS is not an OS release, it is firmware that does not support adding network or disk controller drivers.

I understand the desire to use very low end hardware. But, TrueNAS & ZFS were designed for Enterprise Data Center usage. While many SOHO and consumer computers will work fine, not all network or disk controllers work. Further, even if a network chip worked before, if that NIC was un-supported, that means iX may remove it's un-supported driver at any time.

It is possible that TrueNAS SCALE might have some support built in for your network chip.

The ZFS pool should not be effected by a change in OS.
I would export on Core and then import on Scale

I exported a *.TAR file before update. I tried to backup data to my Windows PC running Windows 11 but i was not successfull. As i don not want loose my data i want rebuild it first to working hardware then i will try install TrueNAS Core or TrueNAS Scale.

I have a old Asus P5E-VM HDMI laying around. I would use it but i can`t find supported at this page

FreeBSD 11.1-RELEASE Hardware Notes

There are very similar board with Atheros L1 controller. If not, then D-Link DGE-528T will work.

It has only SATA_II 3G ports so i would install Axagon PCES-SA4M2 controller. Will this configurtaion work. I want to keep low as possible because it is only my personal storage and it is sufficient for my needs.

I meant export the data pool on core (without ticking the destroy box)
You should then be able to install Scale (maybe do so without the disks attached - just in case of IBKAC errors). The reattach the data pool and import.

I have no idea if that Axagon card will work. We tend to use LSI HBA's here as they have been tested. I have no idea if some random "that suits my purpose with just the right number of ports" card will work. There is nothing inherently wrong with a SATA II port for a HDD.

The linked blogpost references FreeNAS 11.3 which is no longer supported.

If you want to enable the built-in Realtek driver, please note that there is a potential data-loss bug with iSCSI with this driver.

Please use the instructions from here to use the TrueNAS CLI to enable it

https://www.truenas.com/community/t...d-h3-rtl8125b-2-5gbps-nic.105325/#post-724619

Code:
root@truenas[~]# cli

> system
system> tunable
system tunable> create var=if_re_load value=YES type=LOADER enabled=true
system tunable> create var=if_re_name value="/boot/modules/if_re.ko" type=LOADER enabled=true
system tunable>

Ctrl+D to exit, then type exit again, and use the console menu to reboot your system.
