I'm in the process of upgrading my drives and adding a UPS. I upgraded the first three drives without issue but when I went to upgrade the forth, things started out great but then the speed of the resilvering took a nose dive and leveled off at about 10/mbps vs 450/mbps.
When I noticed that the resilvering was going to take forever on this drive, I began to wonder if I had a bad drive or poorly connected SATA cable so shutdown and reseated all of my cables. Booted back up to good speeds for about 10 min and then it dropped down to 10/mbps again. Very strange... So I must have a DOA drive... I rebooted a couple more times to observer the symptom. It still didn't make sense to me why it would start out strong and then die off like clockwork.
When I installed the 4th drive, I also attached and enabled the UPS service for a APC Back UPS CS 500 that I had lying around. I did some quick testing and freenas detected the UPS fine and reported correctly when I disconnected the UPS from power. No issues so I didn't suspect anything at first. I was using the "usbhid-ups" driver.
With further testing, I disabled the service and rebooted. Performance was strong and didn't slow down. After a couple hours, I re-enabled the UPS service and like clockwork, the resilvering dropped back down to 10mbps.
