Hi all, haven't been around these parts in an age! I am looking to migrate my FreeNAS system (which has performed admirably) to the latest stable build. Wondered if anyone has any thoughts about this and can offer any advice?

The ZFS pools are on version 15.

There might be an upgrade path that would let you preserve your configuration file, but I wouldn't count on it. There should not be a problem importing your pool.

I would do the following to upgrade:
  • Check that you meet the system requirements for 9.10: 8GB+ RAM and 8GB+ boot device
  • Take notes/screenshots of your configuration
  • Make a backup of your data
  • Download the 9.10 ISO
  • Make a installer USB/CD
  • Wipe your existing boot device (or get a new one)
  • Install 9.10 on your boot device
  • Import your pool.
  • Configure your system.
  • Make sure everything is working.
  • Upgrade your pool.
