hello,
i am still confused of the upgrade... but currently running 13.0u2,
was checking change logs... can i directly upgrade to u6.1? is u6.1 stable and u2 is not stable?

Do i need to execute some manual backup before upgrade?
Thank you!

My question along with yours is, do I need to upgrade? Is it okay to upgrade and be stable? Will I lose my OpenVPN system that I am currently using for like 2 other friends?

It's a minor bug fix release, and IMHO you should just follow all of them when running a system in production. Why did you skip U3, U4 etc.? Don't you install Windows patches, either? Keep your software current, folks!

What specifically has changed and which bugs were fixed can always be found in the release notes:

In this particular case you should definitely upgrade because a long time lurking ZFS problem that might lead to data loss has been fixed in U6.1.

@Patrick M. Hausen you are right.

Is it possible to upgrade step by step u2->u3....->u6.1?
or direct upgrade from u2 to u6.1 is safe?

no manual backup etc before that is required?

thanks

Via UI you can only upgrade in a single step. You would need to download all manual update files to perform all intermediate steps - but why would you want to do that?

A configuration backup is always recommended in case anything goes wrong.

Yes it is safe. I just recently helped a friend of mine upgrade from 12.~ to 13.0-U6.1 and it went without issue.

Just backup the configuration from the UI. Your data pools are not touched by a TrueNAS upgrade.

System > General > Save Config

The system will even ask you to perform exactly that during the upgrade process.

@Patrick M. Hausen thanks, was thinking about some script to do that on regular basis and push that config using Restic.

TrueCommand will maintain a configuration archive of all managed TrueNAS systems.

It is up to 50 disk drives in total. You can run it on premises.

I wonder if it's related to this other user, who might have experienced the same issue before realizing it after it was too late?
