I notice that LSI recently posted firmware updates for some of it's SAS HBA products that might interest you. For example here

under Firmware, you can get an updated 2108it.bin file dated earlier this month and an mptsas2.rom BIOS update dated February 16, 2012.
This is a bit confusing for me, but tt looks like LSI stuffs the actual firmware files in the Windows- and DOS download package, but you can extract these files and apply them with the installer of your choice. For instance sas2flash is supported on multple operating systems. So is MegaCLI.
There is also a pretty neat Quick Reference guide for the sas2flash utility. I am not sure if one exists for megacli and megarec.
