My machine is stuck telling me I have an update to apply but it's not "taking." I've applied the update and rebooted. I've also applied the update, switched the boot file to the default, rebooted, then activated the new one. Nothing seems to be getting me to the new version. For that matter, my grub boot screen doesn't show the new version as an option to select either...

What is the build version (from System -> Information)? U4 (as of now) is the latest version.

Hmm, looks like it's booting the correct version then. System->Info says FreeNAS-9.10.1-U4 (ec9a7d3).

Am I misunderstanding my system? I'm slightly confused and maybe I just need to understand FreeNAS a bit more. There is an alert that shows:

OK: Dec. 19, 2016, 9:19 a.m. - There is a new update available! Apply it in System -> Update tab.

If I go into the updates, it tells me I have to reboot to get the updates installed. If I go to the boot screen, it shows that the default boot is active, and I need to reboot to get U4. I guess I assumed that the "default" boot was the one I originally installed. Is this just how it is?

A screenshot of your boot screen would be helpful. But, as you thought, default is the original install and subsequent updates should show the name of the update and the date it was installed.

Here's what my boot looks like. I assume this is what you're asking for rather than the grub boot.

Yup, default was the original. It is interesting that the boot flag is stuck at "On Reboot" after you already rebooted. The next update (9.10.2) is due out later today or early tomorrow. Please let us know if that update exhibits the same behavior or if it correctly sets the boot flag to Now after that update's reboot.

I am unable to get 9.10.2 to work at all. There is definitely something not working correctly. Endlessly tells me there is an update. This is the message I get when trying "check now" for updates. ("Update: FreeNAS-9.10.2 has already been applied. Please activate 9.10.2 via the Boot Environment Tab and Reboot to use this updated version"). I have attempted to "Activate" 9.10.2 and it "Failed to activate Boot Enviroment". If anyone is having the same issue, or has some insight I would love to know, Thanks.

I'm seeing the same. Ran through the update one. Waited quite some time. Cleaned up my boot drive, rebooted and deleted 9.10.2. Trying the install again. About 30 minutes in. Sitting at installing packages 1/5 base-os. Going to be patient and see if it goes through.

I am not sure how exactly but somehow it activated and is working after a reboot. I am pretty sure it just activated on its own sometime a few mins after my last failed attempt. I just happen to look over and saw 9.10.2 was now set for "on reboot" lol?

I'm also sitting at installing base-os 1/5. I've been sitting at that spot for about a half hour. I guess I'll just keep waiting and see what happens.

I am having the same problem. I also tried deleting and reinstalling. I eventually gave up and will stay on 9.10.1-U4 for now

Replying here to say "Me too". Eventually gave up, rebooted, deleted 9.10.2 from Boot, back at square one.

Also replying to say the same for me...couldn't update to 9.10.2. Stuck at installing packages 1/5 base-os. Reverting back to 9.10.1 U4.

I tagged onto one that was already created this morning when I checked. I'm not sure if we're all getting hung up at the same place, but this is definitely the first time that I've had a problem updating FreeNAS in as long as I can remember. I tried both from the GUI and from the CLI and either of them finish.

I posted on other thread, verified and it was OK rebooted and had issues with network interfaces and jails so I rolled back and everything is great again. Hopefully a fix will come quickly.

On one of my machines, a reboot didn't come back up.

"Unterminated string quote in /var/tmp/rc.conf.freenas"

Had a look, and the line:

Code:
ixssl_list="nginx"

had hundreds of
Code:
^@
control characters in front of it. Deleted those and rebooted.

So far this seems to have succeeded.

I was able to resolve by using the CLI updater and the 9.10.2 tar image. YMMV.

If you've already attempted to install and failed. Reboot (or find and kill the failed update process), delete the boot record for your failed 9.10.2.

Then as root:

cd /var/tmp
wget http://download.freenas.org/9.10/STABLE/9.10.2/FreeNAS-9.10.2.tar
freenas-update FreeNAS-9.10.2.tar
