Just created a an SMB share which has a symlink in the root of it which links to a folder in another location

eg
/home/user1/shared
is a link to a directory called
/home/user2/shared

/home is shared

even with global SMB configured with
unix extensions = no
follow symlinks = yes
wide links = yes

i can't see the shared folder on the windows 7 or client in /home/user1

Has anyone come across this?

Were you able to resolve this? If not, which FreeNAS build version (from System -> Information)?

Hi Dlavigne,

haven't been able to resolve it as yet, build is FreeNAS-11.0-U4 (54848d13b)

I'm an amateur but doesn't it make perfect sense that users cannot see folders inside other users home directories? if the shared folder was located a /home/shared and had permission for a particular group full control then each user has a symlink to that folder within their home directory wouldn't this work properly?

Will give that a go when i get back from travelling.

The trouble is the symlink isn't even visible in the SMB share. yet alone failing to traverse it.
