I have the exact same issue when upgrading from 9.2 - 9.3 via the GUI upgrade method. (Intel S1200BTL) Upon booting, only blinking cursor on the upper left screen.
Sounds like something from the bootloader?
I picked 9.3 because it is listed as the minimum version required for upgrading to 11. I ended up doing a fresh install and reload the config.
