SOLVED TrueNAS SCALE 21.06 update bug ?

Hello everyone,

I am trying out TrueNAS SCALE 21.06 Beta on a VMWare Workstation Pro 15.5.7. Whenever I log into the Web UI, it reports no update available.

However, when I ssh into the virtual machine and use 'sudo apt update', or select option #9 from the console, it always comes up with a bunch of available updates.

After I have installed all the available updates via 'sudo apt full-install', the process ends with an error.

After the reboot command, these updates completely broke my virtual machine's console.

Is this due to a bug or have I done anything wrong ? Please explain it to me. Thank you very much in advance.

There's no update from 21.06 yet - 21.08 will be out about 31/8. The apt updates are not supported by iX systems, and will most likely brick your system as you found out.

You have to wait for 21.08 to drop, or be brave and test -NIGHTLY (which can break a lot)

As an explanation, the apt updates are for the OS - Bullseye Linux. Changing these may break TrueNAS. Only developers should use these.
TrueNAS updates are for all software and middleware , including OS. They are tested as a systems and to ensure smooth updates.
TrueNAS SCALE 21.08 is the next version.. due 8/31
There are nightly images... for developers and serious BETA testers. These now approximate SCALE 21.08, but may include some free, additional bugs.

_Firstly, regarding the bricking of my TrueNAS SCALE vm, can iX Systems learn something from Ubiquiti Networks ? I am using their EdgeRouter X SFP as my WAN router & it also runs on the Debian-based EdgeOS. I found that they do a brilliant job in managing their repositories so that update packages for their routers do not get mixed with update packages from Debian's repos.

Because it is answered, moderators have that permissions afaik.
Just because you didn't know apt-get wasn't supported, doesn't mean it isn't answered.
