its strange cuz the same pc stayed up and running ubuntu for 23 hours doing rsync last night to a HDD. what is truenas being picky about. I'm in the process of just disconnecting devices and trying again to see which sata port or cable it doesn't like

You might find it interesting to follow the forum rules (red link above) and share your hardware and version details so we may have some chance of guiding you.

What you've done so far is the equivalent of calling up a Ford garage and saying "my car keeps cutting out on me every 5 minutes after I start it, but it was fine where I was driving it yesterday with different wheels on it"...

I am used ASUS b360m-a motherboard
Fenvi T-919 network wifi card pci-e
Some usb c and b front panel I got off Amazon it’s brandless
1 1tb nvme crucial (this one is ok) I disconnected it and it still restarts
1 tb nvme adata
I had those two in a mirror data vdev
2 6TB WD NAS RED also in a data mirror vdev
Monitor probably isn’t important.
Nvidia Asus gtx 1660
2 256 adata ssd Boot pool mirrored
32GB hyperx fury 2x16gb ram kingston
Some no name 6 port pci e Satacard (this is ok) because I disconnnected it and it still restarts.

Are you using that as the NIC?

From the ASUS website for that motherboard:
Realtek® RTL8111H, 1 x Gigabit LAN

It wouldn't be great to be using that either.

You still didn't mention which TrueNAS version we're talking about here (and you are working in the FreeNAS legacy forum, so it's really not clear).
