Hello all. First time post. Whenever we experience a power failure I will receive an email notification whose content reads as follows:

TrueNAS @ freenas.local

New alerts:
* freenas.local had an unscheduled system reboot.
The operating system successfully came back online at Sat Dec 31 19:02:09 2011.

Obviously, I am concerned mainly by the reported date and time. We had a brief power outage yesterday so the date should have read Sat Jul 03 and the outage happened some time in the early afternoon. I verified the timezone and system date and all is fine. Your time and assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Peter

Welcome.

Please post more specifics, see following link.

I would be more concerned why you don't have your NAS connected to a UPS.
If you have frequent power interruptions, you are playing with fire without a UPS.
I hope you have a redundant backup of your data.

Regardless,
1. Is this a new system or repurposed system?
2. When was the last time you changed the CMOS battery?
3. When you boot to BIOS, what time and zone is the BIOS set to?
4. Make sure your time zone is correct in the TrueNAS GUI then:
5. shutdown the ntpd service with "service ntpd stop" the
6. run "ntpdate <DC IP>" to force the clock to sync up
7. then restart ntpd with "service ntpd start"

Thank you so much for the prompt response. My apologies for not getting back to you sooner!

1) UPS - My Lenovo T140 TrueNAS server is connected to a UPS not a generator so I have battery power for only so long. Did not get home in time to power off the unit.

2) CMOS battery has never been changed (something I definitely plan on looking into.
3) Boot to BIOS. Will hook up a monitor to the server at some point soon.
4) Time zone is set correctly
5) ntpd service shutdown and ntpdate will do that followed by restart (Roger that)

Sounds like you need to configure the shutdown time after going on battery to be commensurate with the time which your UPS can power your system and allow an orderly shutdown. This is a normal setup task for a UPS on a server. Remember to also consider the need to keep your network up so that any communication link between UPS and server is up at the time the shutdown signal to the server is sent.

Duly noted. Thank you for chiming in. Much appreciated.
