I just got started with TrueNAS, while I am by no means a newbie to this area of systems, I am indeed new to TrueNAS itself.

For starters, I got 10 4TB SAS disks, and got them all running in Non-RAID mode on a Dell R730xd, they are sorted into two z2raid vdevs, they pass SMART happily, and the array under TrueNAS performs admirably, pulling 10Gbps, no problem. This is not a bare metal install, I've got TrueNAS running under ESXi 7 U3, and managed with vCenter. (8 CPU cores, and 64GB of DDR4 ECC)

I set up a vSwitch with only one uplink specifically for the TrueNAS VM, and it allows jails to acquire DHCP and talk to the internet.

The problem I am having seems to be isolated to just the jails, and I assume it's a permissions issue, as I do not understand how users in jails interact with the wider NAS user environment. I install the pulgin with the default settings, and grab an IP address from the network under DHCP, this works and the jail is accessible.

Then I spin down the jail and add a mountpoint, I add the dataset directory I wish to see in the jail and add it to the same path inside the jail. Example:

Source: /mnt/<pool>/pictures
Destination <pathtojail>/mnt/<pictures>

When I restart the jail and go to the directory above: /mnt/pictures there is one folder: <myuser> and nothing inside.

While I'm not sure why every file added goes under a folder <myuser> I do see a couple TB of files from the share under SMB, however this same directory, mounted to the jail, is empty.

Help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
