Got an interesting setup issue.

So music is in my /media/music folder and owned by guest/media

I create CIFs share to /media/music and call it 'Music'.
I create Sonos user with password and part of group media with associated groups of guest and wheel.

My CIFs share has no guest allowance so is user/pass based.
My CIFs share has no IPs limited to.

When in Sonos setup of music library I can find my freenas/Music share but username and password show a domain of the PC I'm on (e.g. HTPC) and that is possibly messing up the user/password entry when I use Sonos credentials.

However, I tried root and still was denied.

This is the message I received in console when I get denied:

You need to enable NTLM v1 authentication as well. More recent versions of SMB have that turned off by default (as of FreeNAS 9.10, IIRC). That in turn opens up a security hole as you can't selectively disable SMB1 for some shares while leaving it active for others. However, you may be able to bypass the Sonos login mess by enabling read-only guest accounts on the sonos share (see this thread https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/unable-to-access-share-from-sonos-controller.53739/)

Sonos stated that they are exploring SMB2+ compatibility. Their priority is likely getting the dictation feature running that they seem to think users really, really want. The Apple speaker likely hit like an earthquake at Sonos. So much customer overlap!
