I'm new to FreeNAS and have just got 8.3 to run on my machine. I have changed my password, set up a volume, made a windows share (will need to add a linux, for Ubuntu later). I've moved a bunch of files to the volume and everything seems to be working great. I have 7 machines on my home network and they all have access to the files I placed on FreeNAS. The machines range from Windows 3.11, 98, 2000, XP (2 machines), Win7 and Ubuntu 12.04 (still waiting). I'm fair at understanding these machines indiviually, but rather green when it comes to servers. Currently I have FreeNAS configured with wide open permissions and it is time (since it seems to be working fine) to rein it in a bit. I'd like to have full access for my machines on the network but want to choke off anything else and am unsure as to what would be the best approach to this. As I said, I'm green when it comes to a server and the clients (my 7 other machines), should I define each machine as a user or should I make a group for them all or is my thinking wrong? I'm looking for suggestions. So far I'm very impressed with FreeNas.
Thanks Mike
