Hello All, Thank you in advance!
I am new to FreeNAS but im also new to storage solutions...
With that i am going through and building a ESXi NFS Dataset (hoping to move to Proxmox) out of a Retired Dell R720xd They are currently using 18 1.2TByte SAS drives among two ESXi hosts.
I was going to move them to a standard 4-6 drive HDD pool with a SLOG... but when i was informed of these drives it got me thinking... First i will have to get a new chassis/ new server for the FreeNAS as the R720xd only supports 12 3.5/2.5 disks... second i would like to get them to order two new disks every other month... Should i continue with the 10K sas drives or get them to spring for 2tb sata SSDs and start a secondary pool to replace the 10K SAS drives.
TLDR: i have 18 10K SAS drives for ESXi NFS Dataset... should i continue to maintain these types of drives or can i move them to Sata SSDs and if i do move them to SATA SSDs what performance gain/loss should i expect?
THANK YOU ALL ANSWERS APPRECIATED.
