difference between sata harddrive at M1015 (IT Mode)and normal sata

Hi,

I do have a LSI 9221-i8 in IT Mode and three discs connected. There where fine in the past and freenas saw them as normal storage with zfs.
Now I conected them to the normal sata ports of a new board cos I want to remove the sas controller cos the common sata should be fine too.
But there where not detected as usual as zpool.

Is there any difference in handling of sata drives on SATA Controller and on SAS Controller so that these drives can not be detected from ZFS subsystem if they are connected on the different controller.

You didn't have what you think you had. You will need to put it back the way it was and copy the data out to some other storage.

There must have been something wrong with your configuration, perhaps it was not actually in IT mode, but something was wrong or it would have worked to move the drives from a SAS HBA to a SATA interface. The SATA interface does need to be in AHCI mode.
