I'm hoping someone can provide some help.

I've been running FreeNAS for about 2 years on the same machine. No problems until the day before yesterday. We had a power failure and when power got restored, the FreeNAS machine didn't come back up (could not login via GUI or access via network files).

I put a keyboard and monitor on the machine and noticed it hung during boot. I tried to upgrade to the new FreeNAS system (writting over the USB stick) and no change. I then (and maybe here's where I'm in trouble) took the original CD (version 8.0) and reinstalled to the USB (fresh install).

I can get to FreeNAS via the web (another machine), but cannot restore data drives. I have 2 2TB WD drives. I can see them in FreeNAS (console window), but can't get them back into service.

I need some help....please. "zpool status" returns nothing. The drives were setup using ZFS. I can see the two drives (ada0 and ada1).

try "zpool import". That won't import the pool, but it will show us a little about the status of your pool.

It should return either nothing at all or some info. It doesn't say "no pools to import". If it had some info, I'd like a paste of that.

Additionally, post the output of:

camcontrol devlist
gpart status
gpart list

Actually if the two "ZFS" lines were in bright white, that wasn't a response, they were kernel messages. The use of an older ZFS might not be a good idea. Older ZFS can't import a newer pool. New ZFS can import old pools.

Yes, the response was in "bright white" lettering.

BTW, I am using FreeNAS-8.0.4-RELEASE-x64 (10351)

Just a bump. I've come to the conclusion that I may have lost everything, but I still have the drives and USB stick set aside (I've not resorted to a Windows box on the network with a shared drive for backup).

I'd like to use the drives that were on the FreeNAS box, but am still hopeful that I might be able to retrieve the data. At this point, all I want to do is get the data (in any way / shape).

Any help by someone would be most appreciated.
