Hi all, I just rebuild my NAS in a new box and also got an new motherboard Asus. I just transfered the USB stick to the new PC but now I do have trouble as I get the following message:

This is a FreeNas data disk and can not boot system. system halted.

I changed the boot sequenze to USB drive but without success so far.

Well, one of two things come to mind...

1. The board isn't compatible with FreeNAS/FreeBSD booting from USB. (Asus isn't one of our recommended brands for a reason...)
2. Your USB stick is bad.
Unfortunately I can't tell you which one is the case, you'll have to rule that out for yourself.

With some MB's (like Asus) you may need to place your USB stick into the correct USB port. I have had this problem myself on an older MB. Also you must ensure that the USB drive to boot from is set up properly in the BIOS. You never mentioned which Asus MB you bought, that might be helpful.

And of course I'm assuming your USB stick did boot in the past or can boot on a different computer.

If the flash drive is plugged into a USB 3.0 port, try a USB 2.0 port instead.

Hi all, I managed to get it running the point was the BIOS setup. It's called EFI Bios and the first what I did changing the BIOS order. That was not enough, I also had to disable the 2 HDD in the Bios. That made my day and now it works really fine.

best regards
