I'm trying to upgrade FreeNAS 8.2.0-BETA3 => BETA4 (x64) via web but I only get "An error occurred" briefly at the top of the screen. Nothing new neither in /var/log/message nor on the console output. I used the .txz file, not the .xz.

WTF?

I've read somewhere in the forums that betas can't be upgraded via gui.... Try searching for the procedure to do it via cli.

Hi Gianluigi Zanettini,

You should be able to upgrade directly from the GUI....that's how I did it. It looks like you have the correct file and everything you wrote above sounds like you are doing things correctly.

First thing I would do is check the checksum of the upgrade file or re-download it from a different mirror....it should present an error if the file is incorrect though, not throw up a non-descript error for a moment.

@andoy31: Some weeks ago I upgraded via GUI another system form b2 to b3, so...

@survive: I already re-downloaded and the second time I also checked the checksum (it matches).

If it's possible to upgrade via shell, that would be ok too (but this procedure http://samkear.com/system-administration/freenas-8-firmware-update-fails-using-the-gui for 8.0 doesn't work I already tried it).

You could attempt to do the upgrade using the CD, sometimes that works when the GUI/Shell methods fail. It may just be easier to save the config file, do a clean install of Beta 4, then restore the configuration.

Hi - I have just attempted the GUI upgrade from BETA3 to BETA4 using the txz file and I get he same generic message "An error occurred!" - did anyone find a workable solution beyond starting with a clean image?

Cheers,
Darren.
