It looks like pci-e x1. 2 hard drives can pretty much saturate a single lane of pci-e. So having 8 drives running off of pci-e x1 is going to limit your throughput.

If it works that is. All it says is Marvell chipset, and not specifically which marvel chipset. Without knowing which chipset they used, I don't know how you'll be able to tell if it's supported under freebsd.

Instead of spending ~$80 on that card, why not spend the ~$120 or so that the IBM M1015's are? It's well supported, and is pci-e x8, which is fast enough for all 8 ports.

... Because if he had read the stickies he would have already figured out the M1015 is the best deal.

thanks for help, i will consider the ibm m1015, and between this, which do you recommend?

Several people have mentioned the M1015. Why not go with a proven adapter that works well with FreeNAS?

Probably not but I have dealt with a few different rocketraid cards on different oses. I didn't have much fun with them.

I have read that there are some of the rocketraid cards that work well, but after being burned a few times, I have decided to stay away from them.
