Dear community,
I tried the latest FreeNas ALPHA release v9.1.0 (just curious) but after installation there's no way to add a network interface, so I cannot login into GUI.
OK, it's an ALPHA, but version 8.x.x works without problem and recognize all vmware network interfaces. Did I miss something? Is this behaviuour normal on ALPHA version? (this is my first alpha :P ).

Thanks
Lucas

Anything and everything that isn't "right" with an alpha is normal. It mostly for developers to see what is and isn't working, test new code, and give people that are advanced users of FreeNAS the opportunity to take a sneak peek at what is to come.

As such, there is no support in the forums at all for 9.x, so you're not likely to get a response from anyone that would know. :/

If you are an advanced user my advice would be to figure out why 9.x doesn't work and submit a bug report and code to fix it.

Hint: I don't even try the alphas... LOL

cyberjock, as I said, I was just curious, that's why I installed alpha on VMWare. And no, I'm not advanced user!!!! :P
Maybe alpha versions need to configure something special for network, that's why I'm asking, but hey, I can wait at least for BETA! :)

Can you specify an E1000 for the adapter in Workstation?

I just installed the alpha version in ESXi 5.1 and it grabbed an IP address from my DHCP server. I was able to login without any problems.

that's why I installed alpha on VMWare.

If you can't get it to run in Workstation, you could try running ESXi as a guest, and nesting FN as a guest in ESXi.

Thanks for tips gpsguy, I'll try ESXi since is not possibile to change adapter type in workstatation.
Just a question, with ESXi you mean vSphere 5.1 ????

Yes, I should have said vSphere 5.1 (free hypervisor).

I've been using Workstation since the 5.0 days on a pc dedicated for VM's. Due to RAM constraints on that box, I recently bought a new machine with 16Gb RAM and put ESXi 5.1 on it.

Glad you got it working.

I didn't mean to sound like I wouldn't help you, just that the people that usually can don't usually answer questions using alphas. They see it as a waste of time because its for advanced users to experiment with upcoming features.

I thought about not loading the Alpha because it didn't work in VMWare Workstation (based on above conversation) but that's not true for me. I have VMWare Workstation 8.0.4 and the networking works fine for me.

Now to take this baby for a quick spin...

Really for you works on workstation 9.0.2???:confused:
Could you please share your *.vmx file? As you probably already know it contains only VM configuration (you can open it with notepad).

Out of curiosity, how are you setting up your network connection? I have mine Bridged.

Sorry, you're right, workstation 9.0.2

All I did was create a freebsd vm through the wizard.

I see you got it working anyhow.
