I am a new user so if you can please explain in detail what I need to provide it would be most helpful.

I have installed FreeNAS on to a spare computer that I have to begin to gain an understanding of have the OS operates. I plan on adding a FreeNAS to my home network to provide extra storage and back up drives.

I have read through most of the rules and posting requirements but if i make a mistake please point it out to me.

So when ever i try to add a CFIS to the FreeNAS service using the Web GUI the server give me the following error and locks up

NMI . . . going to debugging

Here is the set up I am using

I have a 1U server with SuperMicro X6DVA-EG with 1 Western Digital 250 GB HD and 4 GB of Ram

http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon800/E7320/X6DVA-EG.cfm

I understand that i do not need that much hard drive and will make finally adjustments in my permanent system.

Please advise what files or logs I need to up load for your viewing pleasure

Thank you for having this forum and for allowing me to use it to resolve my system issues.

If you're not sure which section to post in, post in the Noob section.

You need to included the version / architecture of FreeNAS you have installed :)

Hi brack,

Here's the first thing a google search turned up for an NMI error:

Memtest your RAM with the boot disk or USB installer available at memtest.org. Let it run overnight. If you wake up with no error after 7-10 passes (or however many) your memory is sound and we need to start looking at other possible problems.

Hi Will thanks for the reply,

I have already ruled out the memory I'll start a check before I head to bed for the night to make sure. The computer I use for testing before I deploy this OS has two 3.5 sata slot so I usually well keep a couple of spare 80 GB around to use for test. I was setting up a Ubuntu workstation before I started this project. It was giving me memory errors so I ran memtest on it, removed the bad chips and installed a couple of new ones. From what I have read to this point this might be a driver issue. The NMI is the non-maskable interrupt, I found a good article here about the process and some possible remedies http://lwn.net/Articles/484932/. I'll post back here if I find a remedy.
