Hi,

I'm having problem with the network sharing and user permission.

The server config as follows:-
- intel core i3 2100
- asus p67 motherboard
- ati graphic card
- 4 x 2TB Western Digital AV harddisk
- Freenas 8

My company computer configuration listed as follows:-
4 PC - All windows XP
iMac 1 - Mac OS 10.6.8
iMac 2 - Mac OS 10.5.8
iMac 3 - Mac OS 10.5.5
PowerMac G5 - Mac OS 10.4.9

I have problem with the file sharing on iMac 1.

All the computers can share each other flawlessly.
AFP just does not work! (However, using SMB, Mac still can share)

However, when iMac 1 copy a folder, or create a new folder in freenas server, some problem occurs.

- the folder being create/copy was set to be full access (read/write) for everyone in the permissions setting on iMac 1

- the folder can be share with everyone on the iMac1

- when it copy through the network to a PC, iMac 2, iMac 3, and PowerMac G5 cannot access the foler.

- all the PC and iMac1 still can access it.

For the folder copied by other Mac or PC, no problem at all.

Any clue to this funny issue?

Thanks for the info.
I will try to upgrade the freeNas.

If i use the GUI upgrade, any risk?
i have about 1 TB data in the server now. Backing up them is quite a difficult task.

Hi Stbeh,

The problem is because you are running FreeNAS 8.0 and Mac OS 10.6.8 (Lion). Apple made changes to Netatalk that caused FreeNAS to stopped working with that version of Mac OS. The problem was fixed in version 8.01 of FreeNAS. You can download the new version here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/freenas/files/FreeNAS-8.0.1/

Yes, do not use the GUI, you must upgrade using a CD. Make sure you backup your settings from the GUI. Your data should be safe. You could make a new installation on another flash disk, boot from that and restore your settings, that way if you have a problem you can put the old flash disk back in and keep working until you figure out what is wrong.

Hi,

i'm having problem with FreeNas 8.01 now.

As per suggested, i install FreeNas 8.01 on another USB stick.
Reload the configuration saved from FreeNas 8.0, and the sharing issue solved.

However, i found some problem.
The user cant connect to server every morning.
It has to be reboot in order to use it.

Any guideline to check?
