Hello, I have installed the truenas core onto my system but to my surprise, the onboard network isn’t detected. I’ve read that not all motherboards are good to use and onboard network isn’t used. I’m using a Gigabyte Auros B550 motherboard with Ryzen 5600G CPU.

I’m looking at network cards, but I feel a little lost. I read that intel is the best to get, but I can only find TP link and Asus. Is this network card acceptable?

TP-Link 10 Gigabit PCI Express Network Adapter - 10 Gbps Networking, CAT6A Ethernet Cable,

Read this:
I am now completely lost. I don't understand half the stuff they are talking about. I am just trying to find a Network card that will work with Truenas. That thread is 27 pages long with dozens of variations, many different aspects of Networking. Please point me to the specific area, I thought my question was reasonably simple and straightforward, thanks.

Ahh thank you. I thought those were a little like signatures and I didn't pay attention to it. I am still getting a little lost. Speed isn't really important, but a silly question I have, why are the older cards so much more expensive than the newer? I would have thought 10G would be more pricy than a 1 gig

In general, 10G is more expensive, but used SFP cards can be found cheaply due to their common use in servers and hence a glut of availability. You can shop around a bit on ebay and the like (being careful to avoid knockoffs).

If speed isn't actually a concern, why do 10G at all... IMO, it's just an excuse to find out that you're not happy with how fast the rest of your system can go.

I was looking for one that could arrive at my home the fastest. I have Amazon prime, can get next day delivery. Only 1 card I could find with lower speed but it was more expensive. I’m in Australia
