Hello there,
after a little research I've put together a FreeNAS rig.
I will be using this machine to back up my Workstation, my 2 Laptops and to store my music and video files.
The server should be able to render FullHD movies using DLNA software like Plex or Serviio.
And lastly I will install a download manager on it to run over night when I'm not using my connection.

Supermicro X10SLH-F
Intel Xeon E3-1230v3 3.3GHz
Samsung ECC Unbuffered DDR3-1600 8GB x 2
SeaSonic 360 Watt Gold
Western Digital Red 3TB 3.5" 5400RPM x 6
Fractal Design Define R4
Total price is about 1600€.
The motherboard has everything I need, enough SATA ports, onboard USB, IPMI, ECC Unbuffered, Intel LAN.
The Xeon E3 is powerful enough to encode 1080p content.
The RAM is compatible with the board, 16 gigs is plenty and I could upgrade to 32.
I'm not fully settled wether to use 2TB or 3TB drives but I will use RaidZ2.
I have decided to use RaidZ2 over RaidZ1 since the latter is not safe enough for me.
With 2TB drives I would get a total 8000GB and with 3TB drives I'd get 12000GB.
Not sure with the case but I've used it before and I really like it, the Node 304 doesn't have good airflow imho.
Lastly I will connect the server to an UPS to ensure proper shutdown incase of a blackout.
Is this rig powerful enough to do backups, encode FullHD and run a download manager?
Are 6 drives into one Raid Z2 raid kinda safe?
Thank you
