mountroot failure: "mounting from ufs:/dev/ufs/FreeNASs1a failed with error19"

FreeNAS 9.2.1.9-release 64-bit, installed from CD
Hardware:

• Zotac ZBox-AD04
• CPU: AMD E-450
  
• RAM: 8GB
• Motherboard: AMD M1
• Installed HDD: 320GB WD Blue

OK, so this worked easily(boot and go) when I flashed the USB img to an SD card just to give FreeNAS a trial run. Perhaps I'm a fool for wanting to keep trying with the HDD, but I'd like to root cause this.

What I've done so far:

• Toggled xhci-handoff off
• Toggled USB legacy mode off
• Turned xhci_load=disabled in the boot options
• Zeroed out the hdd (using dd)

I'll probably give up and go to another SD card if this continues to fail, but I'd like to see this through.

The root cause?

Sucky support by AMD for FreeBSD.

Thanks, Eric. I'm beginning to wonder if it's something to do with the SATA support.

Very quickly this morning I pulled the HDD out of the computer and put it in an external bay (USB2) - system booted right up.

You do realize the whole disk is dedicated to the OS anyway, right?

Yes - my goal was to do a "spare parts" build, with exception to the main storage media itself.

I realize I'm burning hours against buying a $20 SD Card, but I'd like to get past this if at all possible...
