Has there been any work on reporting metrics from FreeNAS into a monitoring service such as DataDog? I'm not sure it's necessary, but I feel that it would be nice to keep an eye on the system from afar. DataDog itself doesn't have an official FreeBSD agent, but maybe someone has something similar? Naturally, such an agent that would have to be able to report the metrics of the host system, not its own jail, if it's in one.

There are a couple of ways of getting metrics out of your FreeNAS server. The first is Graphite. A pretty nifty way of graphing things like disk performance, network traffic etc. The other is good old SNMP (my preferred choice) as you can pull that information into a number of monitoring tools, like Nagios, PRTG, Observium, Check_MK just to name a few. You can also use the Net-SNMP tools to create your own monitoring, graphing and alerting scripts.
