hello,
i was thinking to use micro atx case for supermicro board... https://www.thermaltake.com/core-v21.html
which can store 3x 3.5"

Is there some way to extend it and connect another 3-5 more 3.5" drives? i mean i was googlin for some cage which doesnt cost million ... and can be somehow reasonably cooled.

any ideas wellcome.
thanks

I don't see why you wouldn't just shell out for a Fractal Node 304 (which fits 6 disks inside + a couple of SSDs if you're creative).

I have no experience with these and would advise caution (actually avoidance) in regard to buying the suggested/supported RAID adapters that they seem to be pushing together with it, but there's some chance that these are the kind of thing you're looking for:

You could possibly use an LSI HBA with external ports and connect it to the external chassis... CAUTION: I have not in any way been able to test that with one of these, so make no assertion that it will work without issue (or even at all). It seems like some kind of option that would meet your requirement if it does work though.

In addition to that, the case you chose is already "expandable"... you can stack them.

Why not put another one on top and just keep the disks internal.

At least 2x the number you can fit in one case...

I think you should be able to either get or somehow make a way to use the empty space to mount many more drives... I guess at least 8.

yeah but hard to say if there are components to do that .. internally place that amount of drive.

long time ago i think i saw external chassis, just cant find it ... i mean its no controller inside... just "hw" where u insert the drive (and using sata cable plug it to mb), thats it.

thanks
