Hello guys,

So I decided to build my first FreeNas build, after spending some hours looking for right build, I found some useful informations on this forum, seems like you guys highly recommend supermicro motherboards and ECC rams. I'll be using this nas for streaming music/video and file storage.

So here is my build (i'm not an expert so If messed up something please correct me :) ):

MOBO: Supermicro X10SLL-F (161,05€)
I picked this mobo because is the cheapest one, there are also other x10 mobos but I don't know which one should i pick.

CPU: Intel Core i3 4170 2x 3.70GHz So.1150 (108,63€)
For CPU there are also other i3 version with 3,80 GHz but this 4170 should be enough?

RAM: 2x 8GB Crucial CT102464BD160B DDR3L-1600 DIMM CL11 Single (31,45€ for 1 stick)
This one was picked from your recommended list. Also my concern is, if 16gb is enough ram?

HDD: 4x Western Digital Red SATA III 3TB

PSU: 550 Watt Seasonic G Series Modular 80+ Gold (80,45€)
Do I have enough 550W for this setup?

So total cost is 413,03€ without case and ssd, my budget is around 600€ without HDDs

since i cant do math im not gonna say either way regarding the psu but in my signature there is a link to a sticky for how to calculate your power needs

Welcome to the forums.
Your selected parts make sense.
I had a worry regarding the "DDR3L" RAM, but since it is on the QVL, it should obviously be fine.

I'd consider at least pricing a X11 system.
The comparable components would be:
X11-SSL-F
i3-6100 (or - G4400. For only occasional plex transcoding work on 1-2 users this is enough. Definitely enough for all else backups/jails/CIFS sharing etc...)
M391A2K43BB1-CPB Samsung 16GB DDR4 ECC 2133Mhz 1.2V UDIMM x8 DR (I'd argue it is better to get 1x16GB to leave as many slots open as possible. You'll need to check the manual as this configuration only works if the RAM module is inserted in the correct slot).

With an X11 build, in reality your only real gain is the bump in max memory capacity from 32GB to 64GB.
Since RAM requirements are likely to continue to increase, I believe this is a quite significant improvement for futureproofing the system. I'd even consider getting the G4400 to save cash)

Thanks for your reply, I will calculate how much power do I need maybe it's even better to take psu with more power, because if I will add more HDDs in future.

Dice, you have good point here, x11 mobo will cost me only 40€ more and it will be easy for me to upgrade RAM in the future.

So I guess I'll lean more on x11 system

Supermicro X11SSL-F Intel C232 So.1151 Dual Channel DDR4 mATX Retail (196,80€)
Intel Core i3 6100 2x 3.70GHz So.1151 BOX (111,60€)
16GB Samsung M391A2K43BB1 DDR4-2133 DIMM CL15 Single (84,61€)

550 watts is plenty of power for that system. I have a good bit more going on. The PS you see in my signature is over spec to the point of not being ideal.
