Hi there,

Where can I find information about what the latest FreeNAS supported driver version can be used for the IBM M1215 / LSI SAS 3008 ?

Thanks in advance!

The drivers are built into FreeNAS to use the card. If you want to update the card firmware, you need to get that from LSI (now Broadcom).

FYI, that card would be this driver: mpr – LSI Fusion-MPT 3/3.5 IT/IR 12Gb/s Serial Attached SCSI/SATA/PCIe driver

These controllers are supported by the mpr driver:

• Broadcom Ltd./Avago Tech (LSI) SAS 3004 (4 Port SAS)
• Broadcom Ltd./Avago Tech (LSI) SAS 3008 (8 Port SAS)
• Broadcom Ltd./Avago Tech (LSI) SAS 3108 (8 Port SAS)
• Broadcom Ltd./Avago Tech (LSI) SAS 3216 (16 Port SAS)
• Broadcom Ltd./Avago Tech (LSI) SAS 3224 (24 Port SAS)
• Broadcom Ltd./Avago Tech (LSI) SAS 3316 (16 Port SAS)
• Broadcom Ltd./Avago Tech (LSI) SAS 3324 (24 Port SAS)
• Broadcom Ltd./Avago Tech (LSI) SAS 3408 (8 Port SAS/PCIe)
• Broadcom Ltd./Avago Tech (LSI) SAS 3416 (16 Port SAS/PCIe)
• Broadcom Ltd./Avago Tech (LSI) SAS 3508 (8 Port SAS/PCIe)
• Broadcom Ltd./Avago Tech (LSI) SAS 3516 (16 Port SAS/PCIe)
• Broadcom Ltd./Avago Tech (LSI) SAS 3616 (16 Port SAS/PCIe)
• Broadcom Ltd./Avago Tech (LSI) SAS 3708 (8 Port SAS/PCIe)

This is very helpful indeed. Thank you so much! Does Freenas 11 support the latest official non-beta firmware as well? I have had some weird disk errors and wish to see if an upgrade will remedy this.

I think (but am not positive) that if the FreeBSD drivers that FreeNAS uses didn't like the installed firmware that it would bark during the boot process. You can look at the output of dmesg -a | more from the CLI/Shell to see if there were any issues there.

I pass through a M1215 flashed in IT mode, FreeNAS could load the driver. Did the command above, it showed the message below:

AVAGO MegaRAID SAS FreeBSD mrsas driver version: 06.712.04.00-fbsd
mrsas0: <AVAGO Fury SAS Controller> port 0x4000-0x40ff mem 0xfd4f0000-0xfd4fffff,0xfd300000-0xfd3fffff irq 18 at device 0.0 on pci3
mrsas0: MSI-x setup failed
mrsas0: FW supports <96> MSIX vector,Online CPU 4 Current MSIX <4>
mrsas0: IOC Init failed, status = 0x3
mrsas0: Adapter initialize Fail.
device_attach: mrsas0 attach returned 6

Could you guide me what the problem is? Thank you.

Just realized that I did not explain my setup clearly...

Using a vmware server, running latest FreeNAS, passthrough the M1215 to the FreeNAS, "supposedly" flashed in P15 version (purchased from ebay). At boot, it indicated BIOS version 6.14.05.2, FW package 24.2.1-0027. Quick google around, I find that driver/fw from broadcom all shows version 15.00.00.00 or 16.00.01.00, the 24.2.1-0027 seems to be a lenovo software version. Would this be a reason?

BTW, I blocked the B5/6 pin on the card based on a reading in this site to avoid the motherboard unable to boot issue.

Quick update: googling around I suspected the "supposedly flashed to IT" was not done right...did the flashing myself and everything works as expected now...(you just can't trust the sellers...:))

I don’t remember the details but I think you download a dos based program and run the flash software. Pretty straight forward I recall. There is How-To guide in this forum for this, I am sure it is pretty complete.
