Spent hours trying to upgrade the IBM raid controller to the latest Jun 2015 12.15.0-0226 firmware for my supermicro x8sil MOBO. IBM install options doesn't support Ubuntu. So I created a SUSE 11 HD just for updating the M5015 firmware. Always got a message that ".....it was not meant for the system". Researched it and found that IBM would only do an update if you used their hardware. [Yes, I know the M5015 is a LSI clone but I wanted to maintain IBM factory firmware and Lenovo bought IBM server line.]
Extracted their ibm_fw_sraidmr_m5000-12.15.0-0226_linux_32-64.bin and it looked like they were checking for hardware IBM comparability. In one of their files they posted the version number 12.15.0-226 upgrade. Also in a script, they used storcli[x86] to install their m5000fw.rom
Serendipitously searched and found the Lenovo site http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds040844
and they just released 12.15.0-226 in Aug 2015. Their 92609280.rom is not surprisingly the size as the earlier released IBM m5000fw.rom. Fortunately they posted this encouraging tidbit:
Supported operating system and device
After flashing, I checked the raid using
storcli -version -ctrl -a<N>
Need to replace <N> to actual digital number start from 0 (0, 1, 2, ...), depending on how many LSI RAID adapters you have installed on server.
Good to go!
I am at the latest firmware update.
