I had a different problem installing 9.10 onto a brand new Sandisk Cruzer Fit 16GB USB 2.0 version SDCZ33-016G-B35:

active set on da1
No handlers could be found for logger "freenasOS.Configuration"
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/use/local/bin/freenas-install", line 56, in module
if installer.GetPackages() != True:
File "/usr/local/lib/freenasOS/Installer.py", line 857, in GetPackages
pkgFile = self._conf.FindPackageFile(pkg, handler=get_file_handler)
File "/usr/local/lib/freenasOS/Configuration.py", line 1101, in FinePackageFile
intr_ok = True
File "/usr/local/lib/freenasOS/Configuration.py", line 630, in TryGetNetworkFile
raise url_exc
urllib2.URLError: <urlopen error [Errno 8] hostname nor servname provided, or not known>
The FreeNAS installation on da1 has failed. Press enter to continue...

It did this with the disk brand new out of the package, and after I had dd'ed /dev/zero over the entire drive

Please see the linked Bug Report.

The issue is most likely related to the illegal character cruzers' use in the file table (I believe it's the file table, but if it's not, it deals with an illegal character within a specific hex value in the firmware), or at least this was the impression I got after reading up on quirks. One of the maintainers believes it's due to quirks and is looking into it, however there is the possibility the cruzer drives will simply no longer be compatible with 9.10 onwards, as this is a problem specific to the cruzers. (Cruzers have also been notorious for having a high rate of failure on FreeNAS, however I used them simply because I upgraded to the 128GB model and had no other use for the two 64GB ones I replaced)

Thats interesting. i use two sandisk cruzer blades for over two years with 0 issues. Also just upgrade to 9.10 without a hitch.
i guess i am just lucky?

Are you using USB2 or USB3 cruzers?

Also, as mentioned, this is an issue with 9.10 (i.e. FreeBSD 10.3), not 9.3 (FreeBSD 9.3) or backwards.

When i built my system, the USB3 had problems with Freenas so i went with USB2.
Being a boot device, i figured i dont need that extra speed anyways.

Unless you just built the system in the last couple of days, your experience has nothing to do with the issue this thread is about.

Again, this is an issue with cruzers and FreeNAS 9.10 (FreeBSD 10.3). Please take the time to read the bug report.

1. I am using cruzers
2. I am running Freenas 9.10
Those two make it relevant but oh well. Sorry to bother. Good luck

My issue is different - after wiping a Transcend 32GB USB2 mini drive, it crashed in the exact same place as the 16GB USB2 Cruzer Fit did upon fresh 9.10 install attempt. I was able to reinstall 9.3.1 onto the same Cruzer fit with no problems after wiping it with dd. These installs were both on an HP Microserver N40L.

Those two make it relevant but oh well. Sorry to bother. Good luck
" i use two sandisk cruzer blades for over two years with 0 issues"

Per the above statement, your experience has nothing to do with the issue this thread is about. Even more baffling, I clearly state this was experienced on a USB3 cruzer, of which you don't utilize, and is yet another reason why your experience thus far does not apply to this specific thread.

I'm baffled why you bothered to reply to the thread at all for the simple fact this is a bug with 9.10 and has zero to do with faulty hardware or user actions. What exactly you're wishing good luck to is also baffling, seeming as this seems to be tied to quirks in FreeBSD 10.3, which you'd know had you taken the time to read the bug report.

Do you recommend I place a huge red arrow stating read bug report prior to replying, as I figured putting it at the very beginning of the OP would have been construed as perhaps one should read it prior to commenting. I didn't post the information in the OP on a whim, so if one is not going to take the time to legitimately contemplate the information provided to them prior to commenting, perhaps it's best to not comment at all (or at the very least until one has done the common sense thing and read the information referenced).

Why exactly are you posting without having bothered to read the information referenced in the first post? There's a link to the Bug Report that was filed for a reason...

Do we need to lock this thread or just hope folks read the bug report. I think your first statement is pretty clear to me. I would however take and add the bug hyperlink to the text in red as well because some folks are going to overlook the blue link in small text above it and not realize it's linked to the bug report, or just make the "Bug Report Submitted" say something like "Link to Bug Report". Your call, I'm just offering some friendly advice in hopes to reduce needless postings.

Locking the thread is fine, as I was going to ask for it to be deleted (unless you or other mods believe it should remain as more of an informational type thread). I submitted the Bug Report after creating the thread, once it became apparent hardware wasn't the issue.

I've made the suggested changes in case you or other mods believe it will help others by keeping the thread.

Sandisk Cruzer Blade, same issue upgraded from 9.2.1.7 to 9.3 toasted! Lucky I saved a backup of my config hey. System just doesn't post at all with the 9.3 image on two different Sandisk USB's I have.

The data is still valuable to anyone having the same problem and since yet another posting of an unrelated problem was posted, I'll lock it.
