After searching the forums for FreeNAS compatible eSATA expansion cards I purchased the Startech pexesata2, that is based on the SiI3132 chipset (http://www.startech.com/Cards-Adapters/HDD-Controllers/SATA-Cards/2-Port-PCI-Express-eSATA-Controller-Card~PEXESATA2). I am having issues getting the hardware to detect the card, and wanted to see if anybody can spot anything obvious before I return it. I went through the BIOS top to bottom to make sure it wasn't an issue there. Here are the specs and the output from various commands, let me know if you need anything else.

Nothing obvious I see. That card isn't going to be compatible with FreeBSD/FreeNAS anyway. So even if it had been detected it still wouldn't work.

Thanks for taking a look. As for the card, that is weird because others have gotten it to work. Oh well, time to RMA it.

If it worked, it'd be recommended in the stickies.

Not that I'm recommending it, but I have a SIS3132 based card that works on 9.2.0 at least. I still use 9.2.0 as my drive burn-in setup.

pciconf -lv:
Code:
siis0@pci0:5:0:0:  class=0x010600 card=0x31321095 chip=0x31321095 rev=0x01 hdr=0x00
  vendor  = 'Silicon Image, Inc.'
  device = 'SiI 3132 Serial ATA Raid II Controller'
  class  = mass storage
  subclass  = SATA

dmesg:
Code:
siis0: <SiI3132 SATA controller> port 0xa000-0xa07f mem 0xf5004000-0xf500407f,0xf5000000-0xf5003fff irq 19 at device 0.0 on pci5
siisch0: <SIIS channel> at channel 0 on siis0
siisch1: <SIIS channel> at channel 1 on siis0

camcontrol devlist: (the only two drives are hooked up to the siis card)
Code:
<TOSHIBA MQ01ABF050 AM003M>  at scbus6 target 0 lun 0 (ada0,pass0)
<ST3000DM001-9YN166 CC4H>  at scbus7 target 0 lun 0 (ada1,pass1)

All I use this for is a platform to run badblocks, and smartctl, etc. And for that it works ok.

I have used these particular cards before in an actual zpool, but they were problematic. Wouldn't recommend.

I would like to thank everybody for their input. I poked around with Google the past few weeks, and made a purchase that seems to be working.

I purchased a PEXESAT322I on Amazon for a decent price. Everything seems to be working fine with it, out of the box, with FreeBSD 9.3-RELEASE-p13. I will post a reply if anything negative comes up, but it seems like a good solution for local backup drives.
