Is RAID mandatory on FreeNAS?

Hello,
I am going to be setting up a freenas server at home.
I am wondering, is raid compulsary?
I want to use it, but not sure.
Also, how can i set it up so it backs up to another hard drive in case of a power failure etc.?
I don't wanna lose data, there will be many personal things on the server.
I should have about 4-5 TB of space in total on the server.
