Hello,

Just received this motherboard to use in a second freNAS home build, and see its recommended in many threads that the controller should be flashed into its "dumber" IT mode to prevent possible conflicts with zfs, so downloaded the latest firmware from the SuperMicro ftp site: PH20.00.07.00-IT.zip. Since most of the threads on flashing the controller were from two to three years ago, want to verify flashing to IT mode is still recommended for this SuperMicro motherboard when using the latest stable download version of freeNAS.

Thanks,

Yes, flash the controller with the IT firmware.

I have this same board, and while waiting for other parts to arrive, I'm reading up on how to.
Is this flashing the same as updating the bios firmware? Same process?

I'm not sure if it matters right now, as I have picked up a sas controller that is IT flashed and a couple of sas-sata breakout cables. But if I can use the motherboard connectors, that would be great.

I have read that getting the bios updated will allow for using the Xeon v4 CPU's will this still allow me to use the v3 chip I just bought (E5-2630Lv3)?

Sorry if I went off subject.
