Intermittent SMART Short Test Failures

Hi all,

I have two drives running in mirror. One of drives is showing intermittent short test failures, but it passes extended tests. See below for the smartctl output. It is just outside of warranty, so I cannot send it back for a replacement either. Do you think this hard drive is failing? I am running FreeNAS 9.10 by the way. Any comments would be appreciated.

I would replace it, besides the failed SMART tests a non zero
Multi_Zone_Error_Rate on WD drives is a very bad sign, most likely it will only get worse in the future.
I purchased a replacement Seagate Ironwolf 4TB HDD and performed a burn-in testing consisted of SMART tests and badblocks test. It passed all the tests without any issues. Should I still replace the WD 4TB HDD with the Ironwolf or hold onto it as a cold spare? Here is the latest SMART on the problematic WD 4TB HDD.

Should I still replace the WD 4TB HDD with the Ironwolf or hold onto it as a cold spare?

Depends on the redundancy you have on the pool and if you have or don't have backups, with good redundancy and/or backups I would have no problem keeping the WD in use until it gets worse.
